Heard It All Before: Hip-Hop Samples

March 17, 2012

Hip-Hop/ Entertainment

My brother found a cool site that shows you who sampled what songs from the past to create the music we hear now. Kanye is known for his sampling ability most notably for his “Through the Fire” sample from Chaka Khan’s 1984 record-setting hit which he turned into “Through the Wire”….”Drink a boost for breakfast ensure for dizzzerrtt” (Killed it).

If you really understand the roots of music you will be aware of the never-ending connections to the past. Music gathers influence from past artists and albums, new sounds are created from ancient ones. Spend some time on this site and see what was the inspiration for your favorite songs.

Check out some numbers of who samples the most

Kanye West-679

Jay Z-884

BIG-749

just to name a few.
