Yesterday evening (February 19th, 2012) MTV2 revealed the top five MC’s of 2012. Three out of the five rep YMCMB, one reps G.O.O.D music and one holds down MMG (which collectively had three artists in the top ten list, not too shabby).
The artist in the top five all have justifiable cause (except for one, which I will discuss later). The ranking of the top five is not too far off, however some slight changes possibly could have been argued. Were some people left off of this list?? Without a doubt. Is this list the “end all be all”, no way. Should you boycott MTV because you disagree? No, we are all adults, voice your opinion and keep moving forward. Hopefully, this list serves as fuel for those artist, such as Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, MGK, and a host of others.
Without further ado, below are the top five hottest MC’s in the game right now. To watch the actual video, click the link of the artist name.
5. Coming in at the number five spot -Lil Wayne. Weezy F Baby and the F is for… Fifth! That is not a typo, the Young Money tycoon was bumped from the fourth position down to number five.
4. At the number four position - Nicki Minaj. Love or hate her, their is no question the first lady of Young Money has established herself as the hottest female rapper in the game. Her star power is global and her fan base is booming. Could Jay-Z have been number four and Nicki Minaj number five or even six? Probably, however the panel of experts decided otherwise. We will see how her most recent performance at the Grammy’s impacts her career…
3. Coming in at number three - Kanye West. Yeezy had one of the highest grossing albums of the year in Watch The Throne along with a record setting worldwide tour that netted millions of dollars.
2. At number two - Drake. It appears that Drake is the number two MC only because he is half rapper/ half singer, no T-Pain… One could make a valid argument that Drake is the number one MC right now, with the large success of his second album, Take Care. This album is arguably perfect with just the right blend of rap and singing, at least five solid hits on the album and you can listen to every track without skipping any.
1. The Hottest MC In The Game - Rick Ross!
“OG is one who standing on his own feet/ A boss is one who guarantee we gon’ eat”.
Rozay did just that, solidyfing his MMG squad as a force to reckon with in the rap game. Rick Ross has helped launch and establish the careers of Meek Mill and Wale, both of whom grace this year’s top MC list.
While he had several seizures, those were only “minor setbacks” to the bawse, as he appears to have a solid lock on the game right now.
What would you change about this list? Who should have made it?
