“A man in purpose can not be constrained, not by fear, not by hate, not even in death” ~ Fligher Education
As I prepare for a presentation I have tomorrow on Positive Psychology, I have become intrigued and utterly fascinated at the concept of “flow”. This is the idea that an individual is emotionally, mentally, and physically completely emerged and in tune with the current task at hand (i.e., being “in the zone”). The concept of flow occurs when an individual is completely engaged and time appears to “flow”, some have likened this to being in an state of “ecstasy” which in this context means being in a euphoric state of mind in which a person almost feels like they are watching themselves in the purest state of being in the moment. Conversely, the idea of being completely engaged in an activity that brings forth purpose and a sense of accomplishment is referred to as having “meaning”, this is referred to as the “meaningful life”.
Reverend, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., one of the most prolific individuals to ever live is the epitomy of living a meaningful life. I always watch his famous “Mountaintop Speech” before any presentation for motivation purposes and to give me a sense of meaning. This speech captures Dr. King completely immersed in knowing his purpose. This video even borders on the verge of being erie in that he appears to know that his days are numbered on this earth, (he was gunned down at the Lorraine Motel the very next day), yet he was not fearful in the least! A man in purpose can not be constrained, check out this video to see what a man in purpose looks like! What’s your meaning in life??
