In Part 1, we looked at the special education classroom populated by your favorite entertainers, Kevin Hart, Gucci Mane, and Fantasia. In Part II, we introduce three more popular entertainers and ask the question.. What if your favorite entertainer were in special education?
Student: Waka Flocka Flames (Rapper, Entertainer)
Special Education Classification: Learning Disabled, Speech Impairment. A speech impairment is a communication disorder such as stuttering, impaired articulation, language impairment, or a voice impairment that adversely affects a child’s educational performance.
Reason for Referral: Waka was born in Queens, New York and raised in ATL, Georgia. According to sources, he was nicknamed “Waka” after the Muppets character Fozzie Bear’s catch phrase, “Waka Waka”.
Waka was referred for special education due to difficulties with speech. On the first day of class his teacher asked him what his name was and he simply replied “Waka, Waka, Waka”!! The teacher thinking this was abnormal then asked him, what does that stand for? Waka thought his teacher was asking him what he stood for, and Waka emphatically replied, “ What I stand for… Bricksquad”!! When his classroom teacher asked him if he was ready to begin his assignment, Waka replied “O Le Do-A”.
Student: Kanye West (Rapper, Entertainer)
Special Education Classification: Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Narcissism, And Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
Reason for Referral: On the first day of class, the teacher began going over the syllabus and classroom expectations for the school year. As the teacher spoke to the class about the presidents of the United States of America, Kanye abruptly interrupted his teacher, shouting, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people”!! His teacher noted that Kanye does not play well with any of his classmates, he does not follow rules set forth by teachers or administrators, and he talks about himself using third person.
His teacher noted that Kanye is very bright, excels in music, art, and history, however he is very outspoken and can be disrespectful at times. He has been known to interrupt others to voice his opinions…
Student: Katt Williams (Comedian)
Special Education Classification: Emotional Disturbance due to inappropriate types of behavior or feelings under normal circumstances and an inability to build or maintain satisfactory interpersonal relationships with peers.
Reason for Referral: Katt Williams has been referred to special education because as his teacher states it “he has lost his mind”! One day during the middle of a classroom reading assignment, Katt got out of his seat visibly frustrated, and began yelling “this ish right here”!
He then ran to the back of the classroom, stripped naked and hid in the corner. He repeatedly cried out “ I am a boy”! When the security guard came to escort him out of the classroom he asked the guard, “am I a real lion”? Just as the security guard escorted Katt out of the classroom, Waka Flocka Flames began flipping across the classroom shouting “BOW BOW BOW BOW” and Kevin Hart stood on top of his desk screaming, “say it wit cha chest” Flocka!!
