We live in a society that is dominated with cutting edge technology such as iphones, ipads, tablets, state of the art computers, hundreds of programming on new model televisions, and so much more. Our nation’s education system however, still lags behind in the methodology and fundamental premise of teaching our children effectively. While some schools are bridging modern technology into schools, the fact still remains that there is a disconnect between what students are learning in school and the outcomes of what students should know after school.
The brilliant mind of Sir Ken Robinson speaks to us about the outdated field of education that is currently failing our nation to effectively prepare them in comparison to other nations. In the video, Robinson creatively tackles how do we educate our children to take their place in the economies of the 21st century? How can we educate our children to have some degree of cultural identity? Sir Robinson proclaims that education systems are trying to meet the future by doing what they did in the past, however this alienates children and many of them do not buy into the current system of educating. Education was conceived in the Enlightment period during the 19th century, so why are we still using this ancient systematic process of learning when our needs of the 21st century are drastically different? Watch the video and lend your perspective! Is education outdated?
